About the manufacturer

Adafruit Industries is a US electronics company founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor Fried. The company was created to make learning electronics and building devices easier and has grown into a manufacturer of development boards, modules, accessories and tools widely used in prototyping and technical education.

Adafruit designs many of its own products and manufactures a significant portion of its electronics in New York City. Its portfolio includes microcontroller boards, breakout modules, sensors, motor drivers, communication modules, displays, LED products, cables, adapters and tools for building prototypes.

One of the company’s best-known ecosystems is the Adafruit Feather family – compact development boards using a consistent form factor with a broad selection of add-on boards. Adafruit also develops CircuitPython, a branch of MicroPython designed to simplify microcontroller programming and rapid experimentation.

A major part of Adafruit’s activity is educational documentation: tutorials, sample code, software libraries and reference projects. This makes its products useful not only in education and maker communities, but also in R&D teams that need to build a prototype quickly and evaluate a sensor, interface or subsystem before creating a custom PCB.

Applications

The manufacturer’s products and solutions are used in areas including:

  • Electronics prototyping – quickly evaluating sensors, interfaces and control circuits.
  • STEM education – learning electronics, programming and embedded systems.
  • IoT – building demonstrators and wirelessly connected devices.
  • Robotics – controlling motors, servos, sensors and actuators.
  • Wearables – compact boards and modules for wearable electronics.
  • Home automation – prototyping smart-home controllers, sensors and devices.
  • R&D – evaluating components before designing a custom PCB.
  • User interfaces – displays, buttons, LEDs and touch modules.

ADAFRUIT products available from Maritex

The Maritex range of ADAFRUIT products includes selected accessories and components for prototyping and connecting electronic devices.

Available product groups include:

  • USB cables and adapters.
  • Accessories for development boards and embedded devices.
  • Interconnect components used in prototyping.

One example of an ADAFRUIT product available from Maritex is a 0.3 m USB micro-B OTG cable (manufacturer code 3610), intended for USB connections in embedded and prototyping projects.

When selecting Adafruit accessories, check the connector type, interface standard, cable length, OTG functionality and compatibility with the development board or device used in the project.
