BIGCAP

Supercapacitors and short-term energy storage

About the manufacturer

BIGCAP is a brand associated with Liaoning Brother Electronics Technology, a manufacturer specialising in supercapacitors – very-high-capacitance devices designed for rapid energy storage and delivery.

Supercapacitors bridge the gap between conventional capacitors and batteries. They can charge and discharge much faster than typical electrochemical cells while offering far higher capacitance than standard electrolytic capacitors.

BIGCAP products are available in different capacitance and voltage ratings. They can be used for backup power, energy buffering, pulse-power delivery and battery support. Depending on the series, through-hole constructions and higher-current solutions are available.

Key design parameters include capacitance, ESR, rated voltage, operating temperature, charge/discharge current and expected cycle life.

Applications

BIGCAP supercapacitors are well suited to applications that need short-term backup power or rapid delivery of relatively high energy.

  • Memory and real-time-clock backup.
  • IoT and telemetry devices – supporting short high-current radio transmissions.
  • Emergency systems – maintaining electronics during brief power interruptions.
  • Energy meters and measurement devices – reserve energy for saving data.
  • Drives and actuators – delivery of pulse power.
  • Battery systems – reducing battery stress during short current peaks.
  • Energy and automation systems – local energy buffering in control electronics.

BIGCAP products available from Maritex

The BIGCAP range available from Maritex includes supercapacitors for energy storage, backup power and short-duration pulse loads.

Available product groups include:

  • Through-hole supercapacitors.
  • Devices with rated voltages around 2.7–2.8 V.
  • Capacitance values from individual farads to much higher levels.
  • Components for backup and energy-buffering applications.

Examples include BRP002RL105FD rated at 1 F / 2.8 V and BUP002R7L107FA-EX rated at 100 F / 2.7 V. Selection should consider required backup time, load current, ESR and voltage margin; series-connected cells also require appropriate voltage balancing.
