FAIRCHILD
Transistors, logic ICs, optocouplers and power semiconductors
About the manufacturer
Fairchild Semiconductor is one of the historically most important companies in the semiconductor industry. Founded in the United States in 1957, it played a major role in the development of silicon transistors, the planar process and the first commercially practical integrated circuits.
Over the following decades, Fairchild developed a broad portfolio of discrete semiconductors, logic ICs, optocouplers, drivers, analog devices and power semiconductors. Its products were used in industrial electronics, power supplies, automotive systems, consumer equipment and communications.
Fairchild Semiconductor was acquired by ON Semiconductor in 2016; the combined company now operates as onsemi. Fairchild technology and product heritage remains present in many device families and in a very large installed base of equipment designed before the acquisition.
For designers and service engineers, Fairchild remains relevant because numerous existing products use its transistors, logic ICs and optoisolation components.
The legacy portfolio covers both low-power signal devices and components used directly in power conversion. This means replacement work may require checking not only basic electrical ratings but also switching speed, gate charge, thermal resistance and package compatibility.
Applications
Fairchild components are used in systems requiring switching, digital logic, signal isolation and power control.
FAIRCHILD products available from Maritex
The Fairchild range available from Maritex includes a broad selection of semiconductors for digital, analog and power applications. The portfolio contains both discrete devices and integrated circuits used in industrial equipment and general-purpose electronics.
Available product groups include:
Examples include MJE350, FDG6322C, CD4094D, CD4021D, CD4066 and optocouplers such as 6N137 and 6N139. The range includes both traditional through-hole parts and compact SMD devices.
When selecting a Fairchild component, check lifecycle status, electrical ratings, package, operating-temperature range and the possibility of using a current onsemi replacement.
For discontinued Fairchild devices, compare the current onsemi status and any recommended successor, paying particular attention to pinout, package, timing, switching losses and thermal limits.
