INTEL

Processors, FPGA devices and computing platforms

About the manufacturer

Intel Corporation is a US semiconductor technology company best known for x86 processors, chipsets and computing platforms used in PCs, servers and embedded systems. The INTEL name may also appear in older catalogues for programmable logic devices historically associated with Altera.

Intel acquired Altera in 2015 and operated its FPGA business for several years. In 2025 Silver Lake acquired a majority stake in Altera, which resumed operation as a separate company. Consequently, present-day Intel and Altera product ranges should not be treated as interchangeable without identifying the manufacturer of the specific part.

Industrial and embedded designs require the right processor or FPGA architecture, interfaces, memory resources, power envelope, development tools and lifecycle support. When maintaining an established design, engineers must also evaluate logic-project compatibility, package, power rails and the supported development environment.
