Cree LED CV28A

Cree LED introduces the CV28A, a new 3-in-1 RGB SMD LED developed for outdoor video screens, digital billboards and visual information systems. The new solution combines high brightness, reduced power consumption and reliability in demanding environmental conditions.

The CV28A features an advanced, patented single-lens optical design. By directing light precisely where it is needed, the LED improves image visibility in full sunlight while reducing energy losses and light pollution.

Higher brightness with lower power consumption

Compared with standard 2828 RGB SMD signage LEDs, the CV28A can deliver more than twice the screen brightness. In displays with a pixel pitch of 10 mm or less, it can also provide higher screen brightness while operating at approximately half the power required by conventional solutions.

Its colour-matched 45°/90° oval radiation pattern directs light towards the intended viewing area. This improves the visibility of displayed content and allows the available energy to be used more efficiently.

One LED platform for multiple pixel pitches

The CV28A can be used in displays with pixel pitches ranging from 6 to 15 mm. A single component type can therefore support a wide range of designs, from smaller-pitch displays to large-format LED billboards.

The compact 2.8 × 2.8 mm package and SMD assembly simplify module design and manufacturing. The technology also enables precise pixel placement and accurate alignment of the RGB dies within each pixel.

Designed for demanding outdoor applications

The CV28A is Cree LED Resilient-Rated and has been designed for reliable operation across a wide temperature range and in demanding outdoor conditions. Its construction minimises discolouration and eliminates the need for additional protection during normal environmental exposure and screen cleaning.
