Lighting efficiency analysis using the example of basil growing

article

The dynamic progress of LED technology and significant increases in electricity prices are forcing research to increase the efficiency of lighting systems for plants growing.
The analysis of lighting efficiency was carried out using the example of basil growth. Firstly spectra measurements of basil leaves were made.
Basis on the measurements results, LEDs spectral characteristics of lighting was designed and made to match the spectral characteristics of the tested plant.
The effectiveness of the proposed solution was experimentally tested using a comparative method based on a small basil plantation.
Some of the plants were illuminated by solar radiation and the remaining ones were illuminated by artificial lights.
Instead of light, all samples have exactly the same growing conditions. On the basis of the obtained results and observations,
the effectiveness of the proposed plant lighting system was evaluated.
